Health Officials Issue Cold Weather Danger Warnings

Thursday Morning News Conference & Demonstration

COCOA BEACH, FL - This weekend is expected to be one of the coldest of the season in Central Florida. When temperatures drop in Central Florida, the number of cold-related injuries can increase. Carbon monoxide poisoning and fires started by improperly placed space heaters are major concerns for health officials who are bracing for the drop in temperatures this weekend.

In addition, the risk of exposure to the cold is a serious concern among individuals whose homes are not properly heated.

Thursday morning, January 7th at 10:00 am, doctors and health officials from Cape Canaveral Hospital will urge the public to make sure the drop in temperatures does not lead to an influx of patients to emergency rooms.

Officials will demonstrate the improper use of space heaters, electrical cords, kerosene heaters, etc. and provide life-saving tips related to carbon monoxide poisoning, burn treatment and exposure to cold temperatures.
